When To Use Fire Pillows
Fire Pillows are used to maintain the fire resistance of building elements (subject to installation compliance) where openings have been made for services.
Use pillows in openings where it would be difficult to apply other products or wet systems, however they are always used in conjunction with approved fire rated mastic.
In the case of smaller penetrations, it's often more economical to use fire pillows, because the required FRL may be achieved with the application of just a few pillows.
They're typically used around cables which may need to be moved later or random size penetrations in a retrofit situation.
Always Check the FRL of the element you are penetrating and check the test reports to make sure your installation complies.
